Volunteer

Dear Prospective Volunteer,

Thank you for your interest in the Armed Forces Service Center (AFSC). Please take a moment to review this letter then, click on the volunteer application at the bottom of this page. Be sure to complete all the information requested on the application, to better assist us in matching your preference with the shifts available.

The AFSC is always looking for volunteers (over age 21) that are able to commit to serving those who serve for at least two -- four hour shifts a month.  Our greatest need for volunteers is from 8:00 PM to Midnight, Midnight to 4:00 AM, and 4:00 AM to 8:00 AM.  We also have some day shifts (8:00 AM - 4:00 PM) available on a bi-weekly basis. Ages 18 - 21, please see the information below.

“The Armed Forces Service Center Board of Directors is currently reviewing our age requirement for volunteers. If you are between the ages of 18 - 21 and interested in volunteering at the Armed Forces Service Center, please complete and submit the volunteer application."

Jerry Yasgar
Board of Directors President
Armed Forces Service Center

The orientations meeting are held on a monthly basis. The AFSC Orientation Coordinator will contact you via email to schedule your class.  Given our space limitations, we can only accommodate 8 prospective volunteers per meeting. To better assist you in serving the various needs of our military guests, you will be scheduled for three training shifts. Upon completion of your training shifts, you will be paired with an experienced volunteer for six months,

If you are looking to complete a short-term community service court requirement -- the AFSC is not set-up to accommodate this type of obligation, based on our training process.

New volunteers interested in serving as a troop greeter can apply for this program after six months of volunteer service due to, the security badges required.

We kindly ask all volunteers to arrive 10 minutes prior to their shift to be briefed by the previous shift. A volunteer name badge and timecard will be placed in the middle desk drawer for your convenience.

To make sure your arrival at the MSP Airport is not stressful ... complimentary parking is available to AFSC volunteers that are "scheduled" for a shift in the center (or an orientation meeting) only. Please be sure to bring your parking ticket to the center for validation.

Parking & Directions (short term parking for orientations ONLY) - As you approach Terminal 1- Lindbergh, follow the signs to "short-term" parking. Park in the GREEN ramp (section "P" mezzanine level). Take the skyway into the terminal and make a right on the mezzanine. Then, proceed down the carpeted corridor to the Armed Forces Service Center.

If you are unable to attend your volunteer training shift, please contact the office at (612) 726-9156 .... Monday thru Friday during the hours of 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Please direct all volunteer inquires to the office (not the center).

Thank you again, for your willingness to join us in “serving those who serve."

Kindest regards,
