Dear Prospective Volunteer,
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Armed Forces
Service Center. Please take a moment to review this letter and
click on the volunteer application (PDF) at the bottom of this
page. The information on the application will assist us in
matching your shift preference with shifts available. Our
"greatest" need for volunteers is from 8 PM to midnight, midnight to 4 AM, and 4 AM
to 8 AM.
All AFSC volunteers work a four hour shift with a scheduled
partner. To better assist new volunteers in serving the various
needs of our guests -- once a training day and time has been
determined, a designated trainer will be assigned to you for
your three training shifts. Afterwards, you will be paired with
an experienced volunteer for six months.
We kindly ask all volunteers to arrive 10 minutes prior to their
shift to be briefed by the previous shift. A volunteer name
badge and timecard will be placed in the middle desk drawer for
your convenience.
To make sure your arrival at the MSP Airport is not stressful
... complimentary valet parking is offered to all AFSC
volunteers. Be sure to bring your parking ticket to the center
for validation.
Directions for parking. As you approach the Lindbergh
terminal, stay in the middle lane and follow the signs to Valet
Parking/Baggage Claim area. Once you see the “commercial
vehicle” sign on your left. Go to the next exit (on your left),
which is for Taxi and Valet Parking. Look for the Blue Guard
House on the left and pull up in front. Follow the guards
instructions then, proceed forward through the garage doors.
Continue forward to the "stop" sign (or parked cars). A parking
attendant will approach your vehicle to give you a ticket. Let
them know you're with the Armed Forces Service Center. Exit
through the glass double doors and turn left. Proceed until you
see the elevators on your right (press 3) then, exit right.
After your first training shift, there will be a parking permit
for parking in valet. The permit will allow you to continue to
use the parking provided.
If you are unable to volunteer for your training shift, please
contact the office at (612) 726-9156, Monday thru Friday from
during 9 AM to 1 PM. Your willingness to join the AFSC in
“serving those who serve," is greatly appreciated.
Kindest regards,
Debra Cain
